Netflix Drops A Bomb On Meghan Markle – Cancels Her Show

Meghan Markle got some devastating news from Netflix over the weekend when the streaming giant announced that it is canceling her show “Pearl” before it could even really begin.

Meghan’s Show Cancelled

Daily Mail reported that “Pearl,” which was created by Meghan, was canceled by Netflix as part of the wave of cutbacks that came about because the number of users of the streaming service has plummeted. “Pearl” was still only in the development stage at the time of its cancellation.

Netflix has a deal with Archewell Productions, which was launched by Meghan and her husband Prince Harry in the fall of 2020 to create scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, features, and children’s programming. “Pearl” was reportedly going to be their first animated series, and despite its cancellation, Netflix is still said to be confident about its deal. Netflix is reportedly hopeful that the couple’s upcoming documentary “Heart of Invictus,” which is about the Invictus Games, will be a success.

Meghan And Harry Want To Create Content That ‘Gives Hope’

“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” Meghan and Harry said after signing their deal with Netflix, according to People Magazine.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” they added at the time.

The BBC reported that this comes after Netflix revealed last month that its total number of viewers dropped by 200,000 in the first three months of 2022. Experts have since warned that after a strong expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic, Netflix has now run out of simple ways to expand their business. There are so many choices for streaming services these days with Amazon and Disney getting in on the action, and many seem to be dropping Netflix to save money.

What ‘Pearl’ Would Have Been

“Pearl” was going to feature Meghan as an executive producer along with David Furnish (Elton John’s husband), Carolyn Soper, Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan and Amanda Rynda.

Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges,” Meghan said in a statement when she announced the show.

“I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history,” she continued. “David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.”

Unfortunately for Meghan, however, it seems that this show was not to be!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
