The world lost a comedic legend last month when Gilbert Gottfried tragically passed away at the age of 67 following a longtime illness that he kept private from fans.

Now, a touching video has emerged showing that Gottfried kept his sense of humor right up until the end, as he can be seen cracking jokes hours before his death.

Gottfried’s Final Video

Posted to his verified Twitter account by his family, the video shows Gottfried filming an episode of his SiriusXM podcast “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast” with guest Brenda Vaccaro.

“Last video of Gilbert’s last recording of ‘Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast.’ Doing his James Mason impression with guest Brenda Vaccaro,” the clip was captioned. “A few hours later he would be rushed to the hospital.”

Fox News reported that Gottfried died on the afternoon of April 12 from recurrent ventricular tachycardia due to myotonic dystrophy type II. He had reportedly been dealing with the condition for quite some time.

Emotional Eulogy For Gottfried

Gottfried’s funeral was a star-studded affair that was attended by celebrities like Mario Cantone, Colin Quinn, and Jeffrey Ross, who delivered an emotional but humorous eulogy for his old friend. The eulogy mentioned various aspects of Gottfried’s life, as well as his many quirks that included stealing “12,000 little bottles of shampoo” from hotels. It also praised Gottfried for the many accomplishments that he achieved throughout his career.

“50 years in show business, 50 years! He went on stage as a teenager and he never stopped. He was supposed to do a show last week. This man has been making people laugh for half a century,” Ross said of Gottfried, according to People Magazine. “What a mitzvah. What a mission in life. What a purpose to have in this world.”

Ross pays further tribute to Gottfried in the video below.

While Gottfried will be dearly missed by his millions of fans, it’s comforting to see that he was laughing, and making others laugh, right up until hours before he passed away.

There will never be another Gilbert Gottfried.

May he rest in peace.
