Canelo Alvarez Falls To Dmitry Bivol, Plans His Immediate Rematch
It wasn't the kind of night Canelo Alvarez was hoping for, as the bigger and stronger Dmitry Bivol scored a decision win.
Canelo Alvarez has something to prove.
Alvarez lost a decision to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol Saturday night. The bout took place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
For Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, plans for a meeting with Gennady Golovkin are now off. Instead, he is looking to rematch Bivol.
“It doesn’t end like this,” Alvarez said.
Bivol, who remained unbeaten with the win, said “I prove myself, I’m the best.”
The loss was just the second in the storied career of Alvarez and his first since 2013. The only other boxer to beat him is Floyd Mayweather.
Also on the card, Montana Love scored a decision over Gabriel Valenzuela, while Shakhram Giyasov bested Christian Gomez.
