Liz Carmouche finally achieved greatness at Bellator 278 Friday night.

In the main event live on Showtime, Carmouche handed Juliana Velasquez her first loss and became Bellator flyweight champion.

The bout was called as Carmouche hammered down shots. Velasquez appealed immediately after, but the decision stood tall.

In the co-main event, Enrique Barzola bested Nikita Mikhailov, while Danny Sabatello topped Jornel Lugo.

Grant Neal and Manny Muro were other main card winners.

Bellator continues from Hawaii Saturday night with Bellator 279. Cris Cyborg defends her title in the main event.
