Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal has been arrested and charged for his part in an incident with Colby Covington.

Masvidal and Covington were involved in an alleged assault outside a restaurant in Miami Beach, Florida recently. Covington scored a victory over Masvidal earlier this month inside the UFC Octagon.

According to a report by MMA Fighting, Masvidal was arrested on charges of aggravated battery/great bodily harm. He also faces criminal mischief charges and is currently being held on bond.

The charges carry much weight with them if Masvidal is convicted. The aggravated battery charge is considered a second-degree felony. That could lead to up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

Rosh Lowe captured Masvidal being brought into jail.

Covington was having dinner with The Nelk Boys, a popular podcast, at Papi Steak Restaurant late Monday night. Authorities were called when a person identified as Covington was attacked.

Covington suffered a fractured tooth and an abrasion on his wrist from the assault. He identified Masvidal as the attack.

Masvidal admitted his role in the altercation while applying for a promoter license. He told the Nevada Athletic Commission to table the application.

“I had a mutual combatant with another athlete, and you know, I can’t say too much on this,” Masvidal said, “but if we could table for later, that would be amazing.”
