Dolly Parton Praises James Woods – ‘One Of The Greatest Actors Of All Time’
Many fans will be surprised to learn that Dolly Parton and James Woods have been friends for decades, ever since "Straight Talk."
The liberal world of Hollywood has long been trying to “cancel” James Woods for being unapologetic about his conservative views, but one person who is standing by him is his good friend, country music legend Dolly Parton.
Parton Praises Woods
Parton defied the liberal elites of Hollywood by gushing over Woods for a new book about his life after starring with him in the 1992 movie Straight Talk. The book is called “The Films of James Woods” written by Chris Wade. The book chronicles his “breakthrough performance as Greg Powell in The Onion Field (1979)” and shows the twice Oscar-nominated actor “has portrayed some of the most memorable anti-heroes of our times.”
“I loved every day I spent on the set with him,” Parton said of Woods. “I’ve always thought he was one of the greatest actors of all time.”

Woods was clearly touched by Parton’s words. He shared her quote on his own Twitter page while he also raved over other women he’s been lucky enough to share the screen with.
“I have been blessed to have shared quality time on screen with some of the world’s most extraordinary women,” Woods wrote. “I’m so grateful to Dolly, of course, to Sharon Stone (dear friend), wonderful Debbie Harry, genius Meryl Streep, so many great artists.”

Filming Straight Talk is clearly a fond memory for both Woods and Parton, who appear to have been friends ever since. Check out a trailer for Straight Talk below to relive some of their best moments in it.
Woods’ Fond Memories With Parton
Last year, Woods took to Twitter to talk about some of his best memories working on this movie with Parton.
“We filmed STRAIGHT TALK in Chicago. First of all any place is heaven when you get to co-star with the great @DollyParton,” he wrote. “She’s even more wonderful in person and funnier than you could ever imagine. Chicago welcomed us with open arms and a generous heart. We had so much fun.”

For Parton’s 75th birthday in January, Woods posted a birthday tribute that included a photo of the singer with The Matrix star Keanu Reeves.
“If you could spend an evening with any two people, could any duo beat this one?” Woods tweeted. “Happy Birthday, @DollyParton.”

Woods Defends Parton
Woods has also publicly defended Parton in the past, taking her side after she was “sandbagged” during the 2017 Emmy Awards, when her former 9 To 5 costars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin launched into an attack on Donald Trump while she was onstage with them.
“Back in 1980 in that movie, we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot,” Fonda told the crowd, with Tomlin adding. “And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.”
Check out that moment for yourself below.
Though Parton didn’t partake in the joke, she still faced backlash from Trump supporters, but Woods did not think this was warranted.
He defended Parton as “a great, loyal, stand-up American” who was “sandbagged” by Fonda and Tomlin, according to The Wrap.
‘Do Not Judge Dolly Parton’
“Do not judge @DollyParton because she was caught between two gargoyles. I guarantee she would never have approved that copy ahead of time,” Woods wrote on Twitter at the time. “She is a very sweet person by nature. I am certain she was so caught off-guard, she was literally speechless.”
James Woods and Dolly Parton are two of our favorites, so it’s nice to see that they have been such good friends for decades! We wish these two American patriots many years of friendship to come.
