Sam Elliott 1883

Oscar-nominated Hollywood star Sam Elliott may have starred in “1883,” but he’s speaking out this week to make it clear that he does not like “Yellowstone.” “1883” is a prequel series spinoff of “Yellowstone.”

Elliott Slams ‘Yellowstone’

Taste Of Country reported that in a new interview this week, Elliott explained that he doesn’t like “Yellowstone” because he finds it to be far too much like a soap opera.

“I’m not a ‘Yellowstone’ fan. I don’t watch ‘Yellowstone,'” Elliott said. “I love Costner, there’s a lot of good people on the cast, a few of them I’ve worked with before — nothing against any of them — but it’s just too much like f—ing ‘Dallas’ or something for me.”

“Dallas,” of course, was a primetime soap opera that ran on CBS from 1978 until 1991. Elliott previously indicated that he was not a fan of “Yellowstone” while promoting “1883” before it premiered.

“‘Yellowstone’ is all over (1883), we’re tainted by ‘Yellowstone,’ which on some level I can’t stand. Because I think 1883 stands alone and will,” he said in another press interview. “Once it comes out, people are gonna say, ‘Oh, yeah. The only connection there is that it got John Dutton to Montana.'”

Sam Elliott Turned Down Part On ‘Yellowstone’

Last year, Elliott talked about turning down a part on “Yellowstone,” saying that he was approached about appearing on the show by producer Taylor Sheridan.

“I first met Taylor maybe not quite a year ago. He talked to me about doing a little thing on ‘Yellowstone.’ I felt the character was too old and wasn’t interested. So I passed on that,” Elliott said, according to The Boston Herald. “Taylor said something like, ‘Well, someday we’re going to work together.’ Six months or so went by and I got a call. Taylor said, ‘I’m going to do this show. I really love you. Come do it with me.’”

“And I started seeing the scripts (he sent me the scripts as he was writing them) and such incredible material!” he added. “Any actor that cares about what’s on page — and I think most good actors do — would find it very hard to turn Taylor’s work down.”

Elliott Isn’t Planning On Retiring In Near Future

Despite being 77 years old, Elliott has no intention of retiring any time soon.

“I am right for retirement, born in ’44 but I have no intention of doing so,” he said back in December. “This is pretty special for sure, another great gift in my career.”

While many fans will disagree with Elliott’s feelings on “Yellowstone,” it can’t be denied that he is one actor who is not afraid to call things exactly how he sees them!
