Queen Elizabeth Pays Touching Tribute To Late Husband Prince Philip Nearly One Year After His Death

It’s been nearly one year since Prince Philip passed away at the age of 99, but he is still dearly missed by his beloved wife Queen Elizabeth, who was married to him for 73 years. On the day before her Platinum Jubilee, which is the 70th anniversary of her taking the British throne earlier this month, the Queen paid tribute to her late husband in a beautiful way.

Queen’s Tribute To Philip

Town And Country reported that while attending a reception in Sandringham, the Queen was seen using a walking stick that had belonged to Philip.

In fact, she has been using the cane since October in what’s a clear tribute to her late husband’s memory.

“I recognized the stick instantly as it was always kept in a pot by the front door. It was the Duke’s stick, and it is very touching that the Queen has started using it,” said Gyles Brandreth, author of “Philip: The Final Portrait.”

Queen Gushes Over Philip

The Queen also mentioned Philip in a message to the public marking her Platinum Jubilee.

“I am fortunate to have had the steadfast and loving support of my family,” she wrote. “I was blessed that in Prince Philip I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it. It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign.”

“In the message, she was acknowledging her own mortality and looking to the future,” royal historian Robert Lacey told People Magazine. “As she thought about her father George VI, she would have also thought about her mother and the importance she played as a partner to him. And then, of course, with the passing of Prince Philip, she is considering the sacrifices and difficulties of being a consort.”

Service Of Thanksgiving For Philip

A Service of Thanksgiving for Philip’s life is set to take place on March 29 of this year at Westiminster Abbey, and the Queen is hoping she’ll be able to go. This came after his funeral had to be more muted than usual last year amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Queen has agreed that a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh will take place in the spring of 2022 at Westminster Abbey,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement announcing the upcoming service.

The loss of Philip is something that the Queen is obviously still struggling with. Hopefully she can find comfort in the decades they had together, and in the fact that they will be reunited again in Heaven some day.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
