Katlyn Chookagian

The first UFC event of 2022 could be an interesting one for many.

In the main event, Calvin Kattar battles Giga Chikadze from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on both ESPN and ESPN+, with prelims streaming on ESPN+.

While Kattar and Chikadze are Top-10 ranked fighters, many others on the docket could be fighting for their current UFC lives.

We start in the co-main event with a rematch between Katlyn Chookagian and Jennifer Maia. Back in 2019, Chookagian earned a decision over Maia in a bout where Maia missed weight.

Following that victory, Chookagian challenged Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight title. She came up short, but has gone 3-1 since.

Chookagian is likely pretty safe in terms of her future, but Maia could be fighting for her life.

The former Invicta FC champion is just 2-2 in her last four with the missed weight. She also missed weight in a prior fight, but did pushed Shevchenko for five rounds in 2020.

Brandon Royval, who meets Rogerio Bontorin, has lost his last two after stringing together four consecutive wins. One of those was to current UFC champion Brandon Moreno.

Bontorin is just 1-2 in his last three and missed weight in his most recent fight last May.

Main card fighter Bill Algeo, who opens that portion of the night against Joanderson Brito, has gone 2-3 in his last five. Chase Sherman is on a two-fight losing skid and his opponent, Jake Collier, has gone 2-3 in his last five and alternated wins and losses in his last 10.
