Dolly Parton wakes up early

Country music legend Dolly Parton surprised many of her fans by revealing that she is such an early riser that she typically gets more done before 7 am than she does at any other time of the day.

It turns out that the reason she has for getting up so early is because of her relationship with God.

‘I Have Better Communication With God In The Mornings’

“Well, I’ve always been an early riser. Sometimes I go to bed real early but even when I don’t, I’m usually up early because I love my mornings,” Parton, 76, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“I love it when everything is quiet and all the energy around me, or in the world, is calm, I feel that I have better communication with God in the mornings,” she continued. “I do my best thinking, planning, praying, and getting ready for the day at that time. It’s just a really good time. And once I’ve done my reading, meditation, or whatever, it’s a good time to start cooking.”

Parton went on to explain that she typically spends the hours of 3 am-7 am alone with her thoughts, passing the time by doing things like meditating and reading. And, she usually dedicates the last hour of alone time to cooking which the country music star warned can become a problem fast.

‘You’ve Got To Watch It’

“You’ve got to watch it, but I’ll never give up my rich, high-calorie foods because you got to cook with butter, bacon grease, and a few things like that,” Parton said. “It scares other people to death, but it don’t scare me. I’d rather die happy than be stressed about staying on a strict diet forever.”

Parton’s love for cooking has led to her teaming up with Duncan Hines to launch a line of baking items inspired by her life.

“I have always loved to cook and, growing up in the South, I especially love that authentic mom and pop kind of cooking,” Parton said of the launch. “I am excited to launch my own line of cake mixes and frostings with Duncan Hines, bringing that sweet, Southern-style baking experience I enjoy to others.”

Parton Learned About Herself During COVID

Like many of us, Parton learned quite a lot about herself during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I knew I was a workaholic, and I still do,” she explained. “That was proven again to me because I thought, ‘Well, I can’t sit on my ass through this whole thing.’ I’ve got to do stuff. I’ve got to read books to kids at night. I’ve got to write songs about the situation that we’re in.”

“I did it all very carefully and all that,” she concluded. “I stayed busy. I wrote a ton of songs, I wrote albums. I continued working. I didn’t want to let it keep me down. I did do a lot of cooking, too, because there were a lot of times I was in the house and couldn’t go a lot of places. I did a lot of eating, as we all did, and made a lot of Duncan Hines cakes.”

It’s abundantly obvious that Parton is still one of the hardest working women in show business, and she’s not slowing down anytime soon!

It’s inspiring to know she gets up early to have her alone time with God before going about her daily tasks.
