How Matt Lauer’s ‘Lavish Lifestyle’ Changed After His ‘Today’ Show Firing

It’s been just over four years since Matt Lauer was fired from the “Today” show amidst over “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,” and since then, the once popular news anchor’s life has changed dramatically.

Matt Lauer ‘Lost A Lot Of Friends’ After His Public Firing

A source told People Magazine that since his firing, Lauer has “lost a lot of friends.”

“People would check up on him for a while, but that’s stopped to a degree,” the source said. “He just stays to himself, he doesn’t really reach out to people very much anymore or engage them and so he’s been losing touch with a lot of people.”

The insider went on to say that the “lavish lifestyle” that the 63 year-old former television icon once enjoyed has had to change as well.

“When he left the ‘Today show,’ he didn’t get paid a penny after he got fired,” the source explained. “NBC stuck with that. He’s presumably sitting on mountains of money but then again, he had a lot of money in real estate.”

Katie Couric On Matt Lauer’s Firing

Lauer was fired in November of 2017, one month after the #MeToo movement was launched with allegations against the disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

“He only wants to talk to people who are gonna take his side,” the source continued of Lauer. “He still feels like he got railroaded.”

Lauer’s former “Today” co-host Katie Couric spoke out about his scandal last month, saying that she was “shocked” to hear the claims made against him.

Couric went on to say that what Lauer allegedly did was “grossly inappropriate” and “callous.”

“And that’s not the Matt I knew,” Couric continued. “There’s a duality in human beings, and sometimes they don’t let you see both sides.”

Lauer has long professed his innocence, admitting that while he did engage in extra-marital affairs, he “never assaulted anyone or forced anyone to have sex. Period.”

In her recent memoir, Katie Couric described feeling sorry for Matt Lauer after his 2017 firing. She also drew backlash for characterizing Lauer as a “decent” man.

Finding Love Again

In the years since Lauer’s firing, he’s managed to find love again with PR executive Shamin Abas, who he met through work twenty years ago and had remained friends with.

A source close to Abas, 52, told People Magazine that she is “very happy” in the relationship.

“She is a dedicated businesswoman who loves to work,” this insider said. “She is independent and has made a nice life for herself.”

The source concluded by saying that Abas supports Lauer “in every way” and that his past does not affect her business.

Despite once being one of the most popular television personalities in America, Matt Lauer’s “cancellation” seems permanent. Right now it does not appear that a television comeback is in the cards for him.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
