UFC 267: Aljamain Sterling Forced Out Of First title Defense
Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has been forced out of a planned title defense set for UFC 267 with an injury.
According to reports, Aljamain Sterling’s first title defense will have to wait.
Sterling was set to defend his bantamweight champion against Petr Yan at UFC 267. That card is scheduled for October 30 from Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
However, MMA Fighting is reporting that Sterling has been sidelined with lingering neck issues. He had surgery recently to repair damage done while wrestling in college.
No official word from the UFC has been confirmed. However, Yan is looking to fight for the interim title on the card if possible.
Earlier this year, Sterling won the belt in controversial fashion when Yan was disqualified while leading their fight.
UFC 267 features Jan Blachowicz defending his light heavyweight belt against Glover Teixeira.
