Original ‘Law & Order’ Returning To NBC After Abrupt Cancellation A Decade Ago

Fans of the iconic television show “Law & Order” are rejoicing today after it was announced that the show will be coming back to NBC for its 21st season a decade after it was abruptly cancelled in 2010.

Law & Order Is Coming Back

Entertainment Tonight reported that the series, which will keep the same format it had during its first 20 seasons, will once again profile “the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.”

“Law & Order” creator and executive producer Dick Wolf said that the return of the series is a “dream come true.”

“There are very few things in life that are literally dreams come true,” Wolf said. “This is mine.”

NBC Excited To Bring Back The Show

Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, released a statement indicating that the network is excited to bring “Law & Order” back.

Law & Order is quite simply one of the most iconic shows in television history, and the idea of continuing its legacy and partnering with Dick on an all-new season is nothing short of exhilarating,” Rovner said. “This is great news for NBC as well as TV fans everywhere.”

“The return of the flagship Law & Order series for a pivotal 21st season is a proud moment for Dick and a proud moment for us, his studio partners,” added Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman, Universal Studio Group.

‘Law & Order’s’ Original Successful Run

Original cast members of “Law & Order” included Sam Waterston, Jesse L. Martin, Angie Harmon, and Chris Noth.

It’s unclear at this time if any of them will be returning for the revival. The original “Law & Order” ran from 1990 until 2010, garnering 50 Emmy nominations during that time, according to People Magazine

A premiere date for season 21 of “Law & Order” has yet to be announced. The revival is set to be executive produced by Wolf, Rick Eid, Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment, will be producing the project.

“Law & Order” was such a success during its run that it launched multiple hit spinoffs, including the ever-popular “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” which is currently in its 23rd season. Other spinoffs include “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and the latest “Law & Order: Organized Crime.”

At a time when police officers are being demonized left and right, shows that humanize them like “Law & Order” are desperately needed.

We can only hope that “Law & Order” doesn’t go the “woke” anti-cop route, and continues to portray police respectfully, just as it did during its original run.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
