Texas Abortion Law

The liberal world of Hollywood has been in full meltdown mode over the past few weeks over the new law in Texas that effectively bans abortion six weeks into pregnancy.

This week, “The Wire” creator David Simon became the latest Hollywood leftist to lose his mind over this law, saying that he won’t be shooting an upcoming HBO project in Texas as he had apparently planned to due to this law.

Academy Award-nominated actress Uma Thurman of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill fame also threw a fit over the law, as she admitted to having an abortion as a teenager.

Simon’s Meltdown

“As an employer, this is beyond politics,” Simon wrote. “I’m turning in scripts next month on an HBO non-fiction miniseries based on events in Texas, but I can’t and won’t ask female cast/crew to forgo civil liberties to film there. What else looks like Dallas/Ft. Worth?”

The Dallas Film & Creative Industries Office (formerly the Dallas Film Commission) fired back at Simon with a tweet of their own, writing, “Laws of a state are not reflective of its entire population. Not bringing a production to Dallas (a big ‘D’) only serves to further disenfranchise those that live here. We need talent/crew/creatives to stay & vote, not get driven out by inability to make a living.”

Simon Doubles Down

This did not seem to sit well with Simon, who responded by saying:

“You misunderstand completely. My response is NOT rooted in any debate about political efficacy or the utility of any boycott. My singular responsibility is to securing and maintaining the civil liberties of all those we employ during the course of a production … if even one of our employees requires full control of her own body and choices — and if a law denies this or further criminalizes our attempt to help her exercise that control, we should have filmed elsewhere.”

The Hollywood Reporter stated that Simon’s upcoming project is likely at an early stage, since it has yet to be announced.

Uma Thurman’s Abortion

Simon’s meltdown came after Thurman admitted that she got an abortion when she was a teenager.

“This law is yet another discriminatory tool against those who are economically disadvantaged, and often, indeed, against their partners,” Thurman wrote in a Washington Post op-ed, “Women and children of wealthy families retain all the choices in the world, and face little risk.”

“I am grief-stricken, as well, that the law pits citizen against citizen, creating new vigilantes who will prey on these disadvantaged women, denying them the choice not to have children they are not equipped to care for, or extinguishing their hopes for the future family they might choose,” she added.

Abortion is murder, plain and simple, and we applaud Texas for taking a stand against it.

Given how hedonistic Hollywood has become, it comes as no surprise that these liberal elites are so up in arms about a law that protects unborn babies.

Here’s hoping that Texas stands strong in the face of this liberal backlash, because laws like this one are desperately needed in this country.
