Stipe Miocic

For now, Stipe Miocic will continue training and preparing for his next UFC fight.

The former heavyweight champion did not really provide much of an update on when that might happen. He was a guest on The MMA Hour and talked about the ongoing situation.

“Nothing new,” Miocic said (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “It feels like it’s like that all the time with me. Right now, it’s time for us to sit down with Dana (White) and figure this all out and try to find the right path.”

For Miocic, that would mean a bout with current champion Francis Ngannou. However, there is now an interim heavyweight champion in Ciryl Gane and the possibility of Jon Jones competing in the division.

The 39-year-old said he was not offered a spot in the interim title fight.

“That was the UFC’s decision,” Miocic said. “It’s not mine. I wish I would’ve gotten a call offering me the fight. I never got one, but it is what it is. I probably wouldn’t be able to take it anyway, but it would’ve been nice just to be offered it. But there’s just so much going on.

“There’s a lot of moving parts, I guess you would say. I’m going to sit down with Dana here in September and kind of figure out what’s the next gameplan and what we’re going to do.”
