Larry David, creator of “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” revealed over the weekend that he was one of several celebrities uninvited at the last minute from former President Barack Obama’s massive birthday bash. Getting cut from the guest list might have devastated other A-listers, however, true to form David said he was “relieved.”
Obama made headlines when news broke that the former President was throwing himself a huge 60th birthday party at his home in Martha’s Vineyard despite concerns over COVID-19.
The event was attended by big name celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Don Cheadle, Beyonce, and the singer H.E.R.
While the party still ended up being a big event, the guest list was scaled back in the eleventh hour. The cuts came in response to backlash over the amount of people the Obamas invited.
David was one of the people who got cut, but he took it in stride.
In a statement to The New York Times, David joked that he feared that he would be forced to perform comedy at Obama’s party. With just three days to prepare, 74-year-old David felt that he was at a loss for material.
“I was pretty glum when I finally called back his assistant,” David said.
Luckily for American comedian, the call ended with him being told that he was no longer invited to the party.
“When he told me I was eighty-sixed from the party, I was so relieved I screamed, ‘Thank you! Thank you!’ He must have thought I was insane,” David explained. “Then I hung up the phone, poured myself a drink and finished my crossword puzzle.”

Larry David was not the only celebrity to be axed from Obama’s birthday event. Others who got the boot as well include Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien and David Letterman.
Hannah Hankins, a spokeswoman for the former president, told Fox News that the “outdoor event was planned months ago in accordance with all public health guidelines and with covid safeguards in place.”
“Due to the new spread of the delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends,” she added. “President Obama is appreciative of others sending their birthday wishes from afar and looks forward to seeing people soon.”
Obama and his fellow liberal elitists who attended this event have been widely slammed for their hypocrisy. Many point out their ilk would likely be the first to shame a Republican who held a similar party.
