The “woke” United States Women’s Soccer Team (USNWT) suffered a humiliating Olympic semifinal loss to Canada on Monday that means they have no chance of winning a gold medal.

Afterwards, the U.S. team’s forward Megan Rapinoe spoke out about the loss.

“It’s terrible. We just didn’t have it today,” Rapinoe said of the loss, according to ESPN. “Just too many errors from us again. I felt like the space was there for us to play and we just couldn’t get into it, too many touches or, you know, an errant touch.”

“That’s football. They got, I think, one shot on goal, a PK, and from what it sounds like it was a PK,” she added. “So yeah, it’s a bitter one to swallow. Obviously we never want to lose to Canada. I don’t think I’ve ever lost to Canada.”

“So it’s a bitter one,” Rapinoe continued. “Obviously there’s still a lot to compete for. That’s what I told the girls and what we talked about in the huddle. It’s not the color we want, but there’s still a medal on the line. That’s a huge thing and we want to win that game, but yeah, this is … this sucks. It sucks.”

They still may be able to win a medal:

First Loss To Canada In 20 Years

This was the first time that the USWNT has been beaten by Canada since 2001, bringing a 36-game winning streak to an end.

Canadian star Christine Sinclair said, “For those of us that were part of the 2012 team [Canada lost to the USWNT in the semifinal after extra time at the London Olympics], it’s nice to get a little revenge in an Olympic semifinal.”

“I was just sitting there thinking how proud I am of this team,” she added. “It’s a very unique group. It’s a special group and I’m so proud to be a part of it.”

USWNT Goes ‘Woke’

The USWNT made headlines earlier in the Olympics for taking a knee in solidarity with Black Lives Matter before their opening game against Sweden, which they also lost.

Rapinoe led the charge in doing this, as she prides herself on being the “woke” Colin Kaepernick of the women’s soccer world.

Perhaps if this team had focused a little more on their soccer, and a little less on their “woke” liberal activism, they would still have a shot at wining the gold medal.

Maybe now the other women on the team will realize that following Rapinoe’s lead in these protests may not be the best idea.
