In an interview about his upcoming movie Stillwater, actor Matt Damon admitted that he only recently stopped using the “f-slur” to refer to homosexual men.
Damon told The Sunday Times that he only just stopped using the f-word months ago after he used it in front of his young daughter. She then wrote an essay letting him know why saying that word is wrong.
“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!‘” recalled Damon, 51. “She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood.”

Damon went on to say that while this slur is offensive to many people, he used it “commonly” when he was a kid.
“With a different application,” he added.
Damon did not reveal which of his four daughters was the one who made him stop using this word.
He and his wife Luciana Barroso are parents to Isabella, 15, Gia, 12, and Stella, 10. Damon is also stepfather to Alexia, 23, who is from Barroso’s previous relationship.
Ironically, Damon only brought up this story as he discussed what he’s learned since receiving backlash for comments he made at the height of the #MeToo movement in 2017.
At the time, Damon said that he was outraged as a father of daughters about the sex crimes of the disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
However, many felt that Damon should be outraged as a human being, not just as a father of young girls.
“Twenty years ago, the best way I can put it is that the journalist listened to the music more than the lyrics [of an interview]. Now your lyrics are getting parsed, to pull them out of context and get the best headline possible,” Damon said of this backlash.
“Everyone needs clicks,” he added. “Before it didn’t really matter what I said, because it didn’t make the news. But maybe this shift is a good thing. So I shut the f— up more.”

Damon inadvertently put his foot in his mouth once again with this f-word story. The backlash on social media has been swift:
Perhaps Damon should have kept this story to himself. He’ll undoubtedly think twice before he ever shares something like that publicly again.
