Robw Lowe Harry Meghan Starbucks Paparazzi popular lines

Hollywood 90’s heartthrob Rob Lowe recently claimed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry caused lines to grow at his local Starbucks when they moved to his ritzy town of Montecito, California. The local baristas there, however, aren’t so sure that this was an accurate statement.

Instead, locals say that nobody seems to really care that Harry and Meghan are in town, even the paparazzi.

Rob Lowe Addresses Harry and Meghan’s California Move

Lowe told E News back in May that things changed quite a bit in his neck of the woods when Meghan and Harry moved there.

“Once the royals move into your neighborhood, the neighborhood is never going to be the same,” he said. “The good news is property values go up. The bad news is the lines are longer at Starbucks.”

Reporter Investigates Rob Lowe’s Claim

Insider reporter Anneta Konstantinides found this to be an interesting statement, so she decided to investigate by traveling to Montecito herself and talking to the Starbucks barista’s there.

While they confirmed that lines have indeed been longer at the coffeehouses as of late, they don’t think it has anything to do with Meghan and Harry.

“Because of COVID, there’s a lot of mobile orders,” one barista explained. “So the lines to pick up have been longer.”

When Konstantinides said that Lowe had blamed the royals for the longer lines, the barista simply replied, “I’ve never seen Rob Lowe.”

As Konstantinides traveled around Montecito speaking to locals, she could not find one person who had even seen Meghan and Harry since they moved to town.

The residents also told her that nothing had really changed in town since the royals moved there, indicating that nobody seems to really care about their presence.

Locals Say Harry And Meghan Aren’t As Popular As Rob Lowe Claimed

One woman who works at a boutique in town said that she hadn’t even seen paparazzi showing up trying to get shots of the royal couple.

For people who love attention as much as Meghan and Harry do, that has got to sting!

“There have always been tourists,” she said with a shrug, adding that even with Meghan and Harry moving there, she still sees Montecito as a “hidden gem” in Santa Barbara.

A college student working at a separate boutique explained that locals are unfazed by celebrities because of the sheer number of them that live in Montecito. Aside from Lowe and the royals, residents of the area include Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry, and Chrissy Teigen, and their presence doesn’t make any waves in town.

“There’s like an unspoken rule,” she said. “We treat them like everyone else.”

While Meghan and Harry are making waves around the globe, it seems that in Montecito, they aren’t much of a big deal at all.
