Cory Sandhagen was on the wrong end of a split decision Saturday night at UFC Fight Night vs. TJ Dillashaw.

And Sandhagen still believes he was in the wrong.

The loss was the second in nine UFC appearances for Sandhagen, who told Megan Olivi on ESPN why he feels he should have won.

“I know I had him hurt,” Sandhagen said (thanks to MMAjunkie for the quotes). “I think I was landing the way cleaner shots. I was picking him apart. I guess I should’ve done more.”

The fighter, who fell to 14-3 overall, added “That’s on me.”

“I told myself I was winning the fifth round,” he said. “I thought that I did. I don’t know. I guess I’ll learn from it.”

Sandhagen had a discussion with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby backstage in which Shelby told him he is still on the cusp of competing for the UFC bantamweight title.

“He came back and said ‘There’s nothing I can do about (the loss) but I promise you you’re still one fight away from the title,'” Sandhagen revealed.
