On Sunday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they had welcomed their second child, a baby girl that they named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

William And Kate Congratulate Meghan And Harry

Afterwards, Prince William and Kate Middleton posted a congratulatory message to the couple on social media. It was noticeably different from the one that they posted when Meghan gave birth to their son Archie two years before.

This has led to speculation that William and Kate may have been trying to send a message to Harry and Meghan with their post.

After Archie was born in 2019, William and Kate wrote on Instagram, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son today, and look forward to meeting the latest addition to the family.”

Differences Between The Messages

There are two major differences between the messages that you may have noticed.

First, Lilibet’s is written in first person, and second, Harry and Meghan’s titles are removed.

Archie’s Instagram message comes off as far more formal. Lilibet’s is clearly meant to be casual in nature with no mention of royal titles.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Insider that William and Kate’s latest post may be part of a bigger plan to change their image as their press team continues to try and rebuild their reputation following Harry and Meghan’s bombshell tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The royal press team may have been trying to show off a less formal side of William and Kate. And, also sending a message that Harry and Meghan no longer will be addressed by their formal titles.

Schofield added that while it was likely the press team who wrote out the post rather than William and Kate themselves, the two royals “likely approved these captions since there would be so much public interest in them.”

Harry And Meghan Trying To Extend Olive Branch?

Tensions have been high within the royal family since Harry and Meghan said negative things about them over the past few months and since they decided to step down as senior royals.

In naming their daughter Lilibet, which has been a nickname for Queen Elizabeth all her life, some believe the two could be trying to improve their relations with their family.

Only time will tell if that actually pays off for Harry and Meghan.
