Amanda Nunes

It should come as no surprise, but UFC double-champion Amanda Nunes has been nominated for the ESPY for best athlete in women’s sports and best MMA fighter.

The 2021 ESPYs will air live on ABC on Saturday, July 10 from The Rooftop at Pier 17 at the Seaport in New York City beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Joining Nunes in the best athlete in women’s sports category are Naomi Osaka, Simone Biles and Breanna Stewart. Osaka is a tennis player, Biles a gymnast and Stewart plays in the WNBA.

The best MMA fighter group includes Nunes, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rose Namajunas and Francis Ngannou.

Claressa Shields, who is signed to the PFL roster, is in the best boxer award with Canelo Alvarez, Tyson Fury and Teofimo Lopez.

Nunes has not lost inside the Octagon since 2014, winning both the UFC bantamweight and featherweight titles. She has earned wins over the likes of Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm.

During the past year, Nunes has defended her featherweight title over Felicia Spencer and Megan Anderson.
