Nicole Kidman Lucille Ball movie

Hollywood star Nicole Kidman recently admitted that mastering comedic legend Lucille Ball for the upcoming Aaron Sorkin movie called Being The Ricardos has not been easy. The seasoned actress mentioned the “I Love Lucy” star’s unique way of speaking being particularly challenging.

Kidman Admits It’s Hard To Portray Ball

“I’ve had to put in an enormous amount of time on Lucille Ball right now, because she has a very particular way of speaking,” said Kidman while talking to comedian Chris Rock in a conversation for Variety.

Take a look:

Rock replied by saying that Ball was “just one of the most talented people to ever roam the earth,” with Kidman agreeing and that this is partly why she feels so much pressure.

“I am way out of my comfort zone right now, Chris! I’m free-falling,” Kidman exclaimed. “I’d like to be funny. I’m never cast funny.”

“Oh, you could be funny,” Rock said jokingly. “You’re playing Lucille Ball. You better be funny.”

“Lucille Ball is hopefully funny,” Kidman responded. “The strange thing about Lucille Ball is that everyone thinks we’re remaking the ‘I Love Lucy’ show, and it’s so not that. It’s about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually.”

Ball Was A ‘Trailblazer’

Kidman went on to describe Ball as a “trailblazer,” saying that in her research of the late star, she’s learned just how ahead of her time she really was.

“She formed her production company,” Kidman explained. “Desi was Cuban, and she had to fight to get him on the show. They had just so many things in their marriage that are so relevant today, and what she was also dealing with in terms of everything that artists deal with, where you’re up against big corporations. And you’re like, ‘No, this is art.'”

Kidman will be starring in the film alongside Javier Bardem.

Bardem plays Ball’s former husband and “I Love Lucy” costar Desi Arnaz.

There has been some backlash over Kidman being cast as Ball. However, the late star’s daughter Lucie Arnaz has voiced her support for the casting choice.

Lucie Arnaz Speaks Out

“We are not doing a remake of I Love Lucy. No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine, or the chocolate factory routine or any of the silly things,” Arnaz, 69, said earlier this year, according to People Magazine. “It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my actual mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Desi Arnaz, my dad, not Ricky Ricardo.”

“There will be humor in the film, but it is a story of the two of them and how they met and what went right with finding the show, what went wrong, their relationship, their love affair,” she added.
