Joy Behar’s Crass Sex Joke About First Openly Gay NFL Player Makes Viewers Cringe

Joy Behar made Meghan McCain as well as millions of viewers cringe on Tuesday on ‘The View’ when she made an “inappropriate” and homophobic joke about the first openly gay NFL player.

Behar made the joke during a segment discussing Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib coming out as a gay man on Monday .

Joy Behar Makes Inappropriate Joke

While most of Behar’s cohosts supported Nassib, Behar said she didn’t see what the big deal was. She then proceeded to make a joke that many interpreted to be homophobic or at the very least inappropriate.

“After they said ‘penetration in the end zone,’ they lose me,” Behar said. If you watch the clip above, you can see McCain cringing.

After the commercial break, Behar was quick to apologize in a way that didn’t really seem like an apology at all.

“I just long for the days when you can just be gay in the world and it doesn’t become a big deal,” she said. “By the way, that inappropriate joke I made for daytime television, scratch it. Make believe I never said it.”

However, viewers were not amused.

“Of all the progress gay men have made since I came out. Our lives are still defined by anal sex ‘jokes,’” tweeted journalist Jon Nicosia.

Mediaite’s Leia Idibly called it an “insensitive sex joke,” and other social media users let their feelings be known about it as well:

Carl Nassib Comes Out

This came a day after Carl Nassib came out as the first openly gay NFL player.

“I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay,” Nassib said, according to Fox News. “I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now but finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I really have the best life, the best family, friends and job a guy can ask for.”

“I’m a pretty private person so I hope you guys know that I’m not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important,” Nassib continued.

“I actually hope that one day, videos like this and the whole coming out process are not necessary, but until then I will do my best and my part to cultivate a culture that’s accepting and compassionate.”

Behar Shows Her ‘Privilege’

Perhaps McCain was cringing because she knew how swiftly she’d be “cancelled” if she belittled Nassib’s coming out by making such an tactless joke.

Behar had no awareness that in simply telling people to “make believe” she didn’t say that, she was showing how privileged she is as a liberal.

While she received some backlash online, Behar is in no danger of being cancelled. And, her joke has already virtually been forgotten.

Conservatives like McCain don’t have the luxury of telling people to “make believe” they didn’t say something when they make a non-PC joke like that.

The hypocrisy of the left really never ceases to amaze.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
