John Stamos Reveals His Secret To Lasting In Hollywood Ahead Of Disney+ Premiere On ‘Big Shot’

90’s heartthrob John Stamos has spent decades working in television on shows like “Full House”, “ER”, and “General Hospital”. So longtime fans may get a shock when they see their favorite leading man on his newest show “Big Shot,” which premieres this Friday on Disney+.

Stamos shared a little admission ahead of the show’s premiere: the 57-year-old was neither prepared nor excited to play the role.

John Stamos Talks New Disney+ ‘Big Shot’

Stamos told The New York Post that he initially was not very excited at the prospect of playing a basketball coach on “Big Shot.”

“I was a band geek in school, I’m a band geek now — I never played sports, I didn’t watch sports,” Stamos confessed. “It was harder for me to learn basketball lingo than medical lingo when I was on ‘ER’ playing a doctor, I’m not kidding.”

“Big Shot” is a sports dramedy that is set to premiere on Disney+ this coming Friday.

The show is about Marvyn Korn (Stamos), a men’s college basketball coach who loses his NCAA job due to his temper. He then is forced to take a job coaching at an all-girls private high school, much to his dismay.

“My Heart Just Sunk”

“I got a call from my agent saying, ‘You’re getting an offer on the new David Kelley show,’” Stamos continued. “And I was like, ‘Oh, I love David Kelley! Am I playing a lawyer, is it like one of those dark characters on ‘Big Little Lies?’ And they were like, ‘It’s a show about basketball.’ And my heart just sunk. Of all things! I said, ‘I’m a player?’ and they said, ‘No, you’re a coach.’ And I said, ‘OK, great … what does a coach do?’”

Despite his misgivings, Stamos decided to take the job and he dove into a lengthy research process, spending a lot of time with NBA legend Jerry West, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.

“He told me it’s called ‘practice,’ not ‘rehearsal,’” Stamos explained.

John Stamos’ Secret To Lasting In Hollywood

Hollywood is a difficult business to have a long-lasting career in, but Stamos has been working for decades, and he attributes his longevity to having a positive attitude.

“I think the days of being a prima donna are out the door — the days of like, ‘I’m not coming out of my trailer!’ If someone does that, it’s like, ‘OK, next!’ ” Stamos said. “There’s so many actors and actresses out there that need work.”

It’s nice to see that Uncle Jessie seems to be just as good of a guy offscreen as the beloved characters he’s played on television.

We can’t wait to see the comedic actor’s hard work pay off on his new show.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
