Ellen DeGeneres Rushed Wife To ER While High On ‘Weed Drinks’ And Melatonin

Ellen DeGeneres, while on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Tuesday night (which was 4/20), openly confessed that she’d had three “weed drinks” and the sleep supplement Melatonin before driving her wife, “Arrested Development” actress Portia de Rossi, to the emergency room last month.

The one-time queen of daytime explained that she’d had to drive her wife to the hospital one night last month for an emergency appendectomy, which the actress is now recovering from nicely.

Ellen told Kimmel that the drive was difficult because she’d consumed multiple “weed drinks” that March night.

While Ellen claimed that she does not typically have marijuana because she “hates the way it feels,” that night she admittedly gave it a shot.

Despite Portia telling her she was not feeling well around 7:30pm, Ellen decided to try the weed drinks in the hopes of getting a better night’s sleep.

“So, Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they’re called Cann, and they have CBD or [THC]—I don’t know what the good thing is,” DeGeneres explained. “I drank one, and I didn’t feel anything, so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills. And I’m laying in bed, and I realize [Portia’s] not in bed.”

“She’s moaning. I get out of bed, and she’s on the ground on all fours, and I said, ‘You’re not OK.’ She goes, ‘I’m OK,'” she added. “I said, ‘No, unless you’re playing Twister by yourself, you’re not OK.’ So I rushed her to the emergency room.”

The medical emergency apparently spiraled from there.

‘I Shouldn’t Be Saying Any Of This’

Jimmy Kimmel asked if Ellen still drove de Rossi to the hospital personally after admitting to being high on marijuana.

She replied, “I did. I mean, I kicked in, like my adrenaline, because I just had to rush her there. It’s probably not safe. I shouldn’t be saying any of this.”

Kimmel not only laughs this off but chuckles when Ellen reminds him, “I’ve seen you high”.

A source had told People Magazine last month that Ellen rushed Portia to the hospital on March 19.

“She was in a lot of pain,” the insider said at the time. “It was appendicitis and she had surgery.”

A rep for the couple spoke out days later to say that the actress was home and “doing well.”

Ellen DeGeneres Jokes About Experience

Ellen also joked about this experience on her show, saying that hospital staffers made her go home because of the COVID-19 pandemic rather than stay with Portia.

“That’s upsetting to me. They sent me home and I’m crying,” DeGeneres said. “Because someone was chopping onions at the nurse’s station.”

Perhaps Ellen should have just left it at that, rather than admitting on TV that she was intoxicated while behind the wheel that night.
