Candace Cameron Bure Gets Brutally Honest About How The Pandemic Tested Her Marriage And Exposed Her ‘Faults’

Candace Cameron Bure of “Fuller House” fame got real about the COVID-19 pandemic has been a struggle in a recent interview. She admitted that the pandemic tested her marriage to former professional hockey player Valeri Bure. They’ve been married since 1996 and have three children Natasha, 22, Lev, 21, and Maksim, 19.

This past year dealing with the pandemic has been an unprecedented struggle for all of us in a variety of ways.

‘I Learned So Much In The Pandemic About Myself’

“I learned so much in the pandemic about myself, as a mother and as a wife,” Bure, 44, told Yahoo News.

“…I’ve always known that a parent is always their child’s biggest example, but all the more in this pandemic because we’ve all been together and we haven’t had those moments to take off for the weekend or go to the gym. …I’m a patient person, but I am not a stress-free person,” she added. “And I show it.”

“It’s taken a lot of self-reflection to realize that your kids are always watching … [the pandemic] has really put the spotlight on my own faults,” she added.

Bure Gets Real About COVID Testing Her Marriage

Though Bure said her marriage has come out stronger in the end, it was far from an easy process during the coronavirus pandemic.

“It got really hairy after the first few months, like bad,” she said.

“All the things that we have avoided for years talking about, they all surfaced and they were in our face and it was unavoidable to actually have these discussions with one another and work through the ‘real deal’ crap,” she continued.

In the end, it was the couple’s three children that reminded them that they are better off staying together.

“My son Lev gave us a 45-minute sermon straight out of the Bible and was like, ‘This is not my opinion, this is what God’s word says and this is how you guys need to look at this and work this out,'” Bure explained. She also added that she and her husband won’t be writing any marriage advice books anytime soon.

“I am no expert on marriage,” said Bure. “We’ve managed to do it, but by the grace of God.”

Bure Sees Her Children As Equals

With her children now nearly grown, Bure sees them as equals.

“I am friends with all of my children,” she said. “[They are] the best, most rewarding relationships in my life … but my husband and I put the work in first. We created boundaries, and the rules and the discipline if it had to come to that. But now as young adults, we are reaping the rewards … my kids actually like hanging out with me and they like hanging out with my husband and they choose having dinner at home — a lot of times over going out with their friends.”

God bless Bure for having the courage to be so candid about how COVID has tested her relationship.
