William Shatner Admits He’s ‘Embarrassed’ To Be Turning 90

Actor William Shatner celebrated his 90th birthday on March 22. Now, he’s opening up about why he finds this landmark birthday to be “embarrassing.”

Shatner Finds Turning 90 To Be ‘Embarrassing’

“I mean, my God, who’s the who wants to be 90?” Shatner told Fox News. “I don’t want to be 90, but I’m 90. It’s a bit embarrassing.”

His most iconic role is that of Captain Kirk on the television series “Star Trek” from 1966-69.

Shatner added that he is planning to celebrate his birthday in July with “Star Trek” fans at the “Star Trek Set Tour” exhibit in Ticonderoga, New York.

He plans to attend this event in person, even if the COVID-19 pandemic is still going strong.

“Why not [go] if I’m asked to do it?” Shatner said. “It’s fun in its way, answering these questions and trying to come up with different answers and enjoying the exchange [with fans].”

Shatner Promotes New Movie

Shatner is currently promoting his new movie Senior Moment, in which he plays a retired NASA test pilot who gets his license revoked for drag racing. Getting his license revoked forces him to find a new way to navigate life.

“They take his license away and by [taking it] away, they’ve taken his youth,” the actor said. “They’ve taken his life, his ability to live and that’s a tragedy.”

“[The character] strives to overcome it and eventually he finds love and he finds another way of living, and that’s true of all of us, isn’t it? Something happens that changes our life,” Shatner added.

“Instead of giving up, we’ve got to continue and find what life has in store for us.”

Shatner Reminisces About ‘T.J. Hooker’

In this same interview, Shatner reminisced about filming his 1980s cop drama “T.J. Hooker.” The show will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of its series premiere in 2022.

“One of the actors had a phobia about birds, hated birds, and we were always on a rooftop trying to find the bad guys… jumping from roof to roof and there were always pigeons around on the roof,” he said with a laugh. “And this guy would ask, ‘Is that a bird?!'”

Despite the fact that Shatner has been acting for decades, he is still as interested in acting as he ever was.

“Everything is a discovery… what’s interesting is to discover not only [things] about yourself, but about the world around you, there’s always continuous discovery,” he said.
