Jill Duggar, 29, who got her start starring on the reality show “19 Kids And Counting” with her family, surprised fans this week when she revealed why she has not been to her parents’ house in a “couple years.”

She revealed this in a new YouTube Q&A video that she took part in with her husband, Derick Dillard.

Jill Reveals Why She Doesn’t Visit Her Parents Often

During this video, Jill and Derick were asked how often they visit “The Big House.”

“The Big House is my parents’ house,” Jill explained in response, “So not much, we haven’t actually been over there in a while, probably like a couple years other than to grab some mail.”

“There’s some restrictions, but also we just feel like this season of life we have to prioritize our mental, emotional health and all that,” she added.

“Our ‘threshold,’ we like to call it, is just a little bit lower in this season of life for us with a lot going on in our own lives.”

“There’s a lot of triggers there,” Derick chimed in to add.

COVID-19 Is A Factor As Well

Jill then went on to explain that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more difficult to see her extended family.

“Plus COVID makes it a lot harder with trying to keep our circle smaller and everything,” she said. “We’d like for it to not stay that way, but that’s where we are right now.”

Later in the video, Jill was asked if her parents Jim Bob and Michelle still invite her and her family to events at their house.

“It depends, yes a lot of events, depends,” she said in response.

Jill Discusses Rift With Family

Last year that Jill opened up about her rift with her family for the first time.

“There’s been some distancing there,” Jill admitted at the time, according to Entertainment Tonight. “We’re not on the best terms with some of my family. We’ve had some disagreements and stuff, but we’re working towards healing definitely and restoration. But we’re having to kind of just take some time and heal.”

Jill later added that she did not like the control that her parents had over the lives of her and her husband.

“Our control to choose what jobs we were allowed to accept and even where we were allowed to live was taken away from us,” Jill said at the time, with Derick adding, “The first few years of our marriage, we spent time and money working towards opportunities only to hit a dead end when we’d be told, ‘Well, you’re not allowed to do that.'”

When Jill and Derek made the decision to leave TLC’s “Counting On in 2017, it “didn’t go over very well with anyone.” Jill said, “by that point we’d had enough.”

While Jill’s issues with her parents may be valid, family is also everything, and life is too short to hold a grudge against them.

We can only hope that in the future, Jill is able to heal this rift with her family.
