Lucille Ball’s Daughter Reveals What She Thinks About Nicole Kidman Portraying Her Mom

Fans were outraged last week when Deadline reported that Nicole Kidman had been cast as Lucille Ball alongside Javier Bardem as Desi Arnaz in the upcoming biopic Being the Ricardos. The show was written and will be directed by Aaron Sorkin.

Now, Lucie Arnaz, Ball and Arnaz’s daughter, reveals what she really thinks about Kidman being cast as her mother.

Fans Slam The Casting Of Kidman As Ball

Fans held nothing back in letting the world know that they felt that Kidman was the wrong choice to play the iconic “I Love Lucy” star.

Many of them called for Debra Messing of “Will & Grace” fame to play Ball instead. 

Lucie Araz Defends Casting Choice

As the backlash grew, Lucie Arnaz took to Facebook to post a video defending Kidman being cast as her mother.

Arnaz explained that this movie is not “a remake of I Love Lucy,” and is instead the story of who her parents actually were as people behind the scenes.

“Nobody has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo nor do the Vitameatavegamin routine, or … any of the silly things. It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my actual mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Desi Arnaz, my dad, not Ricky Ricardo,” Arnaz explained.

“There will be humor in the film, but it is a story of the two of them and how they met and what went right with finding the show, what went wrong, their relationship, their love affair,” she added of the movie, which is set to be released by Amazon.

“Now, of course it’s going to have ‘I Love Lucy’ in it. As a matter of fact, Aaron Sorkin has set it on the stage of filming one week of rehearsal, rehearsing and filming the show,” Arnaz continued. “But all this other stuff takes place during that time.”

This Is NOT An ‘I Love Lucy’ Movie

She also made it clear that “very little of the show is actually ‘I Love Lucy’-type stuff,” going on to promise fans of her parents that they will not be disappointed. 

“Aaron has done a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life, and it’s just a little … slice of life in their journey,” she said. “It’s not the whole story. It’s not a biopic from cradle to grave.”

“It is a two-hour feature film about these two people and some of the remarkable things they lived through,” Arnaz emphasized. “So I hope I can set the record straight here, and just say, stop arguing about who should play her, ‘She doesn’t look like her, her nose isn’t the same, she isn’t as funny…'”

“Just trust us, it’s going to be a nice film, and p.s. the voting is over,” she concluded. “I love all of you.”

With Ball’s closest family members defending the casting of Kidman, perhaps fans should give her a chance after all.
