Marvin Vettori Lights up Darren Till’s New UFC Ranking

Marvin Vettori has jumped way, way up the UFC’s middleweight rankings, following his impressive win over Jack Hermansson. But, the surging fighter clearly has some issues with the fact Darren Till’s also moved into the top five.

Vettori says Till’s ranking makes “no sense”

Vettori faced Hermansson in the headliner of the UFC’s December 5th card, which originally was supposed to feature Till. But, Till had to withdraw due to an injury, and then Kevin Holland stepped in.

The latter, however, tested positive for COVID-19 and Vettori was tapped instead. The Italian fighter went on to outscore the contender Hermansson, for the decision win.

Well, following the event, the new UFC rankings have gone up. Vettori has jumped eight spots and is now #5. Till, meanwhile, has moved up two positions and is sitting at #4.

Since the new rankings were released, Vettori spoke with MMA Junkie. While talking about Till’s move, ‘The Italian Stallion’ said this.

“They just updated the rankings,” Vettori said.

“They put Darren Till No. 4, which makes absolutely no sense; 1-1 in the middleweight division with a split-decision win and very inactive.

I don’t know. Two fights in the middleweight division, being 1-1 with that win being a split decision, it don’t make no sense to be No. 4.

But he’s ahead of me in the rankings, and if that comes to fruition as a fight, I would love that.”

So, Vettori certainly isn’t the first person to question the thinking that’s gone into the rankings. While Till is a talented fighter, and he was a top contender at welterweight, it is true he’s gone 1-1 so far at 185.

Till beat Gastelum by split decision, before losing to the former champ Whittaker. Vettori has gone 6-2-1 so far in the UFC, and he just defeated Hermansson, who beat Gastelum earlier this year.

Who else?

All that aside, clearly Vettori would love to face Till. But, while speaking about his next bout, Vettori also had this to say.

“It’s just funny sometimes,” Vettori said. “I look and I see what I say sometimes.

They keep asking me about these questions, and it’s pretty easy to recognize the way I am.

Basically, every time they ask me, I’m like, ‘Yeah, just anybody in the top five is perfect.’

I basically said every name in the top five. Jared Cannonier was left out, and I’m like, ‘Man, Cannonier can get some love, too, if he wants it.’

If they offer me Cannonier, I’m not going to shy away from that challenge either.”

Vettori versus Till or Vettori versus Cannonier are both, must-see fights.
