Conor McGregor’s 2020 campaign didn’t go as according to plan. But, the former champ is pretty proud of what he accomplished in his one fight of the year.
McGregor posts PPV numbers for UFC 246
Heading into 2020, McGregor repeatedly said he wanted to stay busy this year and fight three times. The Irish star returned to the Octagon in January at UFC 246, and quickly put away Donald Cerrone.
McGregor had planned to fight again in the spring, but a fight failed to materialize as the COVID-19 pandemic kicked off. Eventually, McGregor retired, before a rematch with Dustin Poirier was booked for January 23rd.
Well, as McGregor continues to prepare for UFC 257, he recently tweeted out the comments and images below.
Congrats to the @ufc on a well fought 2020! The only sporting company on the planet to come through the entire year! Incredible! I am honoured to secure their highest PPV of the year with McGregor Vs Cerrone. Congrats Donald, and also on his double submission win last night. #No1

Jorge Masvidal’s manager claims otherwise
It had been reported that UFC 246 had done very well and moved over 1 million pay-per-view buys. But, it was also reported that the Kamaru Usman versus Jorge Masvidal led, UFC 251 card in July, had sold around 1.3 million.
So, not long after, Masvidal’s manager, Abraham Kawa, responded with this.

I don't think Jorge would like that. We don't dim another man's light to make ourselves shine brighter. He knows as we do

At the end of the day, it’s not like either card blew the other way in terms of sales. You have to wonder, how many PPVs would a card headlined by McGregor versus Masvidal do?
