The backstage slap incident Arn Anderson recently talked about took occurred on August 4th, 2014. At the time, Anderson still worked as a backstage producer for the WWE.

In 2014, Alberto Del Rio allegedly slapped a member of staff. At the time, it was rumored the incident occurred due to a racist joke.

According to Anderson, Del Rio slapped a member of staff for disrespecting him.

“One of the pit stops and when he was really doing well was, he smacked I think, one of the writers, assistants, or something backstage for disrespecting him.”

“The worst part of life today is this. The politically correct thing that we all live under mantra. I’m sorry. In that day and time, on that particular afternoon, you said something you shouldn’t have done, and you should have seen what he did to the individual, you should have apologized a hundred times if that’s what it took, just because it was the right thing to do.”

Anderson continued to state that the employee in question was lucky to get away with just a slap. Apparently, the Mexican wrestler was absolutely livid.

How Things Went For Del Rio

Things have not gone great for Del Rio since he left the WWE. In fact, he currently stands accused of some serious crimes.

In October of 2020, Del Rio was indicted by a grand jury for aggravating kidnapping and four counts of sexual assault. With these charges, the former WWE wrestler could face anything between five and 99 years in prison.

According to reports, an altercation took place between Del Rio and his then girlfriend. The wrestler allegedly accused her of being unfaithful.

The report on NBC News 4 San Antonio:

“She claimed he became angry when she wouldn’t admit to the infidelity, so he slapped her across the head, slapped her again, then took her to his downstairs bedroom and slapped her eight more times.”

“The victim alleged he then made her put on a dress and dance for him, but she refused, prompting him to warn her not to cry or he’d take her son and ‘drop him off in the middle of the road somewhere.’”

The incident escalated further after this, but due to the graphic nature of the events, we will not mention them in more detail here.

Del Rio’s violent behavior is nothing new. He was fired by the WWE in 2014 for slapping Cody Barbierri after an alleged racist remark.

Alberto was also involved in a domestic incident involving retired pro wrestler Paige, who was then his girlfriend. Del Rio was accused of domestic battery, but later would claim Paige was the aggressor.

In 2017, Del Rio also claimed he was attacked by a drunk man wielding a knife. In short, trouble always seemed to find the Mexican wrestler.

Now, he faces some serious jail time.
