It wasn’t long ago when Jon Jones was calling on Israel Adesanya to a sign a contract, and make a super fight between the stars a reality. But as the end of 202o approaches, ‘Bones’ is reporting that winning the heavyweight title, and not scrapping Adesanya, is his top priority.

Jones says “nothing is bigger than heavyweight gold”

If you’ve followed all the drama between Jones and Adesanya, you know the two have been exchanging verbal shots and warnings for over a year. Both men have said they’re willing to fight, and UFC President Dana White has also made it clear the UFC’s interested in that match-up.

Buzz about the fight spiked all over again after Adesanya cruised through Paulo Costa at UFC 253. Then, before UFC 254 took place last month, Jones called on ‘The Last Stylebender’ to “sign the contract”.

More recently, however, White has said the UFC is looking at having Adesanya fight new light heavyweight champ, Jan Blachowicz next. Adesanya has also said that he’s looking at facing Jones sometime, mid-next year.

It looks like Jones, however, is ready to move on. In a recent Twitter session with fans, the former light heavyweight champ posted the following (warning: graphic language).

Yeah just how he envisioned it, the arena he wanted and everything.
There’s not a man on this planet that tells me what to do.

I march to the beat of my own drum.. there’s no red panty night for Izzy without me, I may just keep him broke

I’m glad you guys can see the F*ckery, there’s nothing bigger for me than the heavyweight championship. Done playing little games

You guys can believe that sh*t if you want to. He was too afraid to fight me at light heavyweight, now you actually believe he’ll meet me to HW.

Love how you guys eat that silly sh*t up, keep buying those wolf tickets

Truly don’t care man, nothing is bigger for me than heavyweight gold.

You’re joking right? I’ve been making millions since my early 20s, I don’t need a super fight with anyone.

Fighting guys like Jan and Izzy does nothing for my legacy, winning the Heavyweight belt is the only thing that can bring me any higher than I already am #facts

Not that surprising?

Now, there’s no question that Jones – Adesanya would be a massive, massive fight, and if ‘Bones’ handed the middleweight champ his first, MMA loss, it would be a nice addition to his resume.

But, as much as many people want to see that fight, Jones does have some points here. First, money likely isn’t a top consideration for Jones at this juncture, as he noted.

Two, at the end of the day, winning the heavyweight belt would do a lot more for his legacy than beating Adesanya. So, if Jones is committed on his move to heavyweight, and is continuing to bulk up, you have to really wonder if the Adesanya fight will happen in 2021.

Adesanya has said that he’s willing to move all the way up to heavyweight to face Jones. But, is the UFC interested in having him move up two weight classes for that fight?

And potentially put two other division’s titles on hold? If Adesanya beats Blachowicz?
