The UFC hasn’t said that plans for an Israel Adesanya – Jan Blachowicz fight have officially been punted, on account of Glover Teixeira’s big win, Saturday. But, if the middleweight champ isn’t good to go next spring, Blachowicz says he’s down to face the rugged vet.

Blachowicz acknowledges Teixeira deserves titles shot

Teixeira took on Thiago Santos in the headliner of UFC Vegas 13, who was ranked #1 leading up to the fight. The #3 ranked Teixeira absorbed some punishing shots in the bout, but his toughness and feared top game ruled the day.

After being hurt in round three, the 41-year-old Teixeira rolled his way into a fight ending, rear-naked-choke.

Following the big win, which was Teixeira’s fifth straight, he called for a title shot. The new champ, Blachowicz, responded with this.

“Great fight and incredible run by Glover Teixeira. You totally deserve to fight for the title and get taste of the legendary Polish power.

“If Adesanya can’t wait ‘til March, let’s go.”

That’s a classy reaction from Blachowicz, but it remains to be seen if the UFC changes plans for a Adesanya – Blachowicz. bout. Given how big of a star Adesanya is becoming, it would be pretty surprising if the UFC does, unless Adesanya’s looking to take some time off.

After the card, UFC President Dana White acknowledged that Teixeira deserves a title shot. But, he stopped short of saying the promotion was going to go with Teixeira instead of Adesanya.

Jon Jones reacts to Teixeira’s win

Jones, who worked his way to a decision victory over Teixeira in 2014, was also impressed with what he saw from the contender. Here is some of what the former light heavyweight champ tweeted out, regarding Teixeira’s big win.

My mind is blown right now, don’t even know what to say

I’m proud to have beat this guy, I like him

Somebody give the man his shot

And then, while referencing his tightly contested, split decision win over Santos last summer, ‘Bones’ said this.

So glad I don’t have to read tweets about running from Santos, If he would’ve won everyone would be talking mad trash tonight

Now the big question is whether the UFC moves forward with Adesanya – Blachowicz, and if Adesanya wins that fight, will Jones return to light heavyweight to battle the champ-champ?
