Brett Favre Says He’s Had Enough Of Politics In The NFL

The legendary Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Brett Favre spoke out this week to say that he’s had enough of political messaging being mixed in with sports.

Favre Slams Politics In The NFL

In an interview with former Fox News host Eric Bolling on Sinclair Broadcasting’s “America This Week,” Favre gave his thoughts on NFL players who kneel during the national anthem.

“I’m glad I’m not playing for a lot of reasons,” Favre said, according to Daily Wire. “That’s one. I don’t want to be asked questions after a game that had nothing to do with play.”

“I’m not saying who’s right or wrong. … There’s a lot of things that need to be fixed in this country and this world. … We can all work together,” he added.

Not stopping there, Favre also blasted “cancel culture,” saying that things have become way too polarized.

“If you like oranges and I don’t, is that wrong? Does that mean I’m suppose to dislike you?” he explained. “You’re either with us or we hate you.”

Favre’s Message To Trump

Bolling brought up the fact that Favre had sent a video message to President Donald Trump earlier this year in which he said, “Hello, Mr. President. My question is, the NBA, and the NFL are struggling with lower ratings as fans clearly do not want political messaging mixed with their sports. So, how should the leagues support and promote an anti-racism position without becoming political and alienating fans?”

“Fans clearly don’t want political messaging mixed with their sports. Did you get a lot of heat for that?” he asked.

“I don’t pay attention,” Favre told Bolling. “Most people thought it was a good question. All the haters, they can’t wait to get on their phones.”

The former quarterback went on to add that “all of us … the older generation” are worried about where the country is headed.

“It’s frightening what it’s going to be like in 20-30 years from now, honestly I have no idea, but I can’t imagine it being pleasant,” Favre said.

Trump Torches Kneeling Athletes

Several months ago, President Trump lamented that kneeling during the national anthem is the “new norm” for professional athletes.

“I think it’s disgraceful,” Trump said in August. “I was pushing them to get open, then I see everybody kneeling during the anthem. It’s not acceptable to me.”

Not all fans want to see or hear political messaging when watching sports. In fact, the NFL ratings have gone down by 6% according to the league and Nielsen.

Neal Pilson, former president of CBS Sports, who runs his own sports TV consulting firm now, said, “Considering all the issues the NFL has had to deal with, the ratings are OK. It hasn’t been a great year for ratings considering everything that has happened, but they aren’t in the toilet either.”

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
