Whoopi Goldberg Says ‘Sister Act 3’ Is Happening, Gives A Cast Reunion Update

Fans of the movie Sister Act are very excited right now, as “The View” coshost Whoopi Goldberg appeared to confirm on Thursday that a third film in the series is indeed in the works.

Whoopi Goldberg Says Sister Act 3 Is Happening

Whoopi’s “The View” cohost Sara Haines asked her directly on Thursday if there would be a Sister Act 3.

“It feels like there may be, yes, it feels like there may be,” Goldberg replied. “A few years ago, they didn’t want to do it and now it seems like people are really talking about it like it is something that people want to see, so it’s great.”

Whoopi Goldberg Working To Get Original Sister Act Cast Back Together

While appearing on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” on Wednesday, Whoopi revealed that she is working to get the original cast back together for the third movie.

“For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it, and then quite recently, it turns out that that might not be true,” she told Corden, who admitted that he is a big fan of the films. “People might want to see it.”

“We’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and to come back,” she added.

Whoopi went on to talk about the appeal of the original 1992 movie as well as that of the 1993 sequel.

“Listen, it’s a really fun movie,” she explained. “It’s fun and it feels good and nobody’s mad. It’s just, like, listen — bad singing, great singing, OK singing, and nuns. What’s better than that?”

When Whoopi appeared on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” in November of 2018, Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry suggested a third Sister Act movie that would star her and Tiffany Haddish.

“The two of them in Sister Act, that should happen. Let’s make it happen,” Perry said, according to Entertainment Tonight

When host Andy Cohen asked if he could buy the rights to Sister Act, Tyler Perry appeared to be intrigued by the thought.

“That’s exactly what I was thinking. I was sitting here thinking, ‘Tiffany Haddish, Whoopi in Sister Act,'” Perry said. “We’ll go get ’em!”

Sister Act Cast Reunion On ‘The View’

Back in 2017, for the 25th anniversary of the first movie, the cast of Sister Act reunited on “The View.”

Many of the original cast members appeared on Whoopi’s ABC talk show to perform “I Will Follow Him.”

Maggie Smith, who portrayed Mother Superior in the original movie, unfortunately could not be there. But the 85-year-old actress made sure to send a video message of support.

“I have such fond memories of when we did those crazy, crazy, crazy films,” Smith said. “I send you lots of love.”

You can watch the Sister Act cast reprise “I Will Follow Him” on “The View” in the vide below.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
