Justin Gaethje

Justin Gaethje recently attended a rally for U.S. President Donald Trump in Nevada, alongside Colby Covington. But that doesn’t mean the interim lightweight champ is a fan of “Chaos”.

Gaethje would “love to slap” Covington

Not long ago, photos of Gaethje standing with President Trump made the rounds. Several other fighters also attended the event, including Kamaru Usman, Henry Cejudo and Covington.

In one of the photos, Covington was standing beside Gaethje.

Well, ahead of Gaethje’s October 24th bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the dangerous fighter spoke with the media. While doing so, he was asked about Covington, and Gaethje had this to say (quotes via MMA Fighting).

“The day after that [rally], I was singing his praises because of how professional he was and how he held himself,” Gaethje said.

“But then he went onto do a bunch of interviews and I probably despise that man more than anybody on planet Earth, other than like child pedophiles and murderers and things like that.”

Gaethje didn’t stop there, however, as he also said this about the controversial fighter.

“He is a coward – he’s a fake person,” Gaethje said. “He stands there and acts like this soft-hearted dude, and then he gets behind the camera and he’s a total coward and a fake person.

I’ve never met someone as fake as Colby Covington.

“As a man, I would love to slap him right across the face.”

Now, it should also be noted that Gaethje is managed by Ali Abdelaziz, who also manages Usman, a fierce rival of Covington. But, clearly Covington’s actions or words haven’t sat too well with Gaethje.

Gaethje would have attended rally for Barack Obama too

The 31-year-old was also asked about why he elected to attend the rally for President Trump, and Gaethje relayed the following.

“Trump is a huge fan of MMA,” Gaethje said. “He’s a reason, maybe not a huge reason, but he’s a reason that UFC is here. He opened his doors for us when we had no doors to walk through.

“Meeting the President of the United States, it doesn’t matter, it could have been [Barack] Obama, it could have been Trump, if I meet the President of the United States…

I’m from a very small town, a very small place from hard working people, we respect the President of the United States as our leader.

So it was really cool. It was a really cool opportunity for me, for my family, for my town to get to have that experience.”

Gaethje will battle Nurmagomedov in the headliner of the October 24th, UFC 254 card. It will mark the first time he’s fought, since he stopped Tony Ferguson in May to win the interim belt.
