Jon Jones is widely regarded to be one of the greatest fighters ever, but Jan Blachowicz continues to drive for a fight with the star, even though he now holds the UFC’s light heavyweight belt.

Blachowicz  says Jones is avoiding his “legendary Polish power”

Earlier this year, when Jones was still the UFC’s light heavyweight king, Blachowicz repeatedly called for a fight with “Bones”. In fact, ever Jones scored a controversial, decision win over Dominick Reyes in February, and Blachowicz took out Corey Anderson, it looked like the two might fight.

While Reyes and many others were calling for Jones – Reyes 2, “Bones” relayed he was more interested in facing Blachowicz.

Well, eventually, Jones decided to vacate the light heavyweight title, as part of a pending move to heavyweight. Blachowicz faced Reyes for the vacant title last month, and he secured the belt via a second round, stoppage.

After the win, Blachowicz immediately called for a bout with Jones, and the Polish star continues to do so. While talking to Submission Radio recently, the 37-year-old champ said this (quotes via MMA Fighting).

“For me, the best (opponent) would be Jon Jones,” Blachowicz said “But I think this is not real. It’s not gonna happen so I think that my next opponent is gonna be the winner between (Glover) Teixeira and Thiago (Santos). But also, Adesanya also is really good.

So we will see. We’ll have to wait a little bit but for me, personally, the best would be Jon Jones. He promised me this fight after I knocked out Corey (Anderson) and I’m waiting for him.

I believe in the future that I’ll catch him somewhere, some day, anywhere.”

In addition, Blachowicz also claimed that Jones is looking to duck him.

“You see what I did with Dominick,” Blachowicz said. “He just escaped because he doesn’t want to lose against me. I understand that. He’s afraid and (so) he went to heavyweight. . .

He just wants to escape from the Legendary Polish Power, that’s why he went to heavyweight. He’s afraid of the Legendary Polish Power.”

“Yeah, I’ve got the belt but I just want to beat him,” said Blachowicz. “He’s never lost. Just one loss but that was a disqualification, it doesn’t count. I want to be the one who beat him in 205-(pound) division.”

Reaction?

So, when you consider the abilities of Jones and who he’s beat in the past, chances are he’s not afraid to face Blachowicz. There’s also a good chance Blachowicz knows this, but is just making these comments in an effort to secure a fight with Jones (and respect to him for wanting to fight one of the all-time greats).

Will we see Jones and Blachowicz fight at some point? It’s possible.

Jones teased returning to light heavyweight to face Blachowicz after he won the belt. Further, if the former champ is thinking about delaying his move to heavyweight for a possible showdown with Israel Adesanaya, then the chances of Blachowicz – Jones in 2021 increases.
