Republican Congressman Jason Smith sent a letter demanding the British government ask the Queen to strip The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, of their royal titles for “interfering” in politics in the United States.
GOP Lawmaker Wants To Stop Harry And Meghan’s US Election ‘Interference’
Daily Mail reported that Congressman Jason Smith of Missouri sent a letter to British Ambassador to the United States Karen Pierce making this request on Friday afternoon.
“Prince Harry and Megan Markle are using foreign titles to campaign against President Trump and interfere with our election,” Smith tweeted alongside his letter. “Today, I asked the British Government to put a stop to it.”

In his letter, Smith pointed out the long history of the British royal family staying politically neutral, which is something Queen Elizabeth has done for decades.
“As you know, the British Royal Family has long observed a policy of strict neutrality in regard to political matters,” he wrote. “I am therefore concerned by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent comments regarding the United States Presidential Election, especially given international conversations surrounding foreign interference in our elections and the Duke’s status as a guest of the United States.”
While the Queen has ultimate control over Harry and Meghan’s titles, she also acts on the advice of the government.
This means she would at least have to consider it if British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asks her to strip the pair of their titles.

Congressman Jason Smith Doubles Down
Smith went on to say that even though the recent comments Harry and Meghan made about the importance of Americans voting were made as private citizens, the fact that the couple continues to use their titles gives off the impression that the statements came from the Royal family.
“It is my view the titles and privileges they retain by permission of Her Majesty the Queen, given with the advice and consent of her government, prevent the Duke and Duchess from separating comments made in a personal capacity from their official position within the British Royal Family,” the Republican wrote.
He added that by allowing their behavior to continue, the British Royal family is effectively “condoning interference” in the American election.
“Therefore, by allowing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to retain their titles, and these political comments to continue, the British Government is effectively condoning interference in the 2020 United States Presidential Election from officials at the highest level of the British establishment,” Smith said.

Congressman Jason Smith Wants Harry And Meghan’s Royal Title Stripped
The GOP lawmaker concluded by saying that either Harry and Meghan must stop making political statements, or the Queen must strip them of their royal titles.
“I respectfully request the British Government ensure The Duke and Duchess of Sussex no longer attempt to interfere in our election or be stripped of all titles, styles, and privileges which they currently retain,” Smith wrote. “I respectfully request you convey these concerns to both Her Majesty The Queen and to Her Majesty’s Government.”
While Harry and Meghan have not officially endorsed Joe Biden, it’s been made abundantly clear that they are liberals who want to see Donald Trump out of the White House.
It remains to be seen how the Queen will respond to Congressman Jason Smith’s request.
