Dolly Parton’s Promotes New Book On Stephen Colbert

74-year-old Dolly Parton appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” to promote her new book “Songteller: My Life in Lyrics.” This book gives fans a front row seat to her life as a songwriter.

The “Jolene” singer explained that even when she writes simple and sweet songs, they can be transformed and given a different life and meaning when sung by someone else.

Whitney Houston’s rendition of the Dolly classic “I Will Always Love You” proves that.

Dolly Parton got her love of music from her mother who always sang old folk tunes that the artist describes as “plum pitiful.” Sad songs can really stir up memories and hit you hard in the feelings.

Dolly Parton’s Impromptu Folk Song Brings Stephen Colbert To Tears

That’s what happened when the Country legend started singing “Bury Me Beneath the Willow.”

The folk song focuses on a woman who makes the decision to end her life after being left at the altar. Back at that time, being jilted at the last minute was something many women could not overcome.

The Tennessee native’s off the cuff performance was so emotion that Colbert had to whip out a Kleenex to wipe away tears.

“Aw, you’re crying?” Dolly Parton asked Stephen Colbert before she stepped on the gas of his tear ducts and continued singing.

She eventually relented in the talk show host’s best interests.

“So I better hush before you cry yourself to death and you can’t finish the show!” she told Colbert.

Finding Joy In The Hard Times

Dolly understands the pandemic has been hard on many people. It’s hard being isolated or worried about your family’s health or jobs.

She is a positive person and trying to make something good of the situation so Dolly is taking this time to write songs.
