Bellator is likely raising the eyebrows of hardcore fans and prospect observers today, as the promotion has announced the signing of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s younger cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov.

Bellator signs Usman Nurmagomedov

Nurmagomedov has been on the radar of prospect observers for a little while now, as Usman has gone 11-0 to date in professional MMA. Like Khabib, Usman competes at lightweight and he’s also a training partner of the UFC’s undefeated champ.

On Friday, Bellator announced that Nurmagomedov has signed a multi-year, multi-fight deal with the promotion. In a statement announcing the signing, Bellator President Scott Coker was quoted saying:

“With today’s signing of Usman Nurmagomedov, we are making it clear that Bellator is home to the best fighters on the planet and an organization where the sport’s future stars are coming to compete,” Bellator President Scott Coker said.

“I am thrilled to have Usman join the promotion and he will be placed in an immediate position to showcase his skills and contend at 155-pounds. We hope to have him in action inside the Bellator cage by December or January.”

Khabib congratulates his cousin

Following the news, Khabib shared out the image and comments below.

I want to announce my brother @usman_nurmagomedov has signed multi year deal with @bellatormma
I just want to thank everyone for giving him this opportunity @bellatormma @dominance_mma and my big Brother @aliabdelaziz000

So, it will be interesting to see how Usman does with Bellator and who the promotion taps him to fight first. Nurmagomedov recently stopped Svyatoslav Shabanov while competing on a Fight Nights Global card in September.
