SmackDown In A Nutshell: Clash Set For Family Feud

We wrap up another wrestling week as we bound into fall, with another SmackDown In A Nutshell. This week, the topic at hand is that Clash is set for a Family Feud.

Now, if for some reason you don’t know what we mean? We’ve got cousin versus cousin for the Universal Championship come Sunday.

The blue brand is giving us a number of compelling and interesting matches for Clash of Champions, but for obvious reasons, that world title match is absolutely the biggest.

Of course, there will be those who look at such a match with some skepticism. After all, Jey Uso is, was and has been primarily a tag team wrestler. Plus, there is at least the hint that he was “hand picked” by Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman.

So while we probably shouldn’t expect a Kofi-mania type experience, here’s betting it will be a better match than you’d think.

So, Clash is set for a Family Feud!

Let’s crack open this Nutshell and see what else is in store!

Best Match of the night:

I’d argue that nothing was truly exceptional.

But, I would say that the opening triple threat between AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy and Sami Zayn gets my nod here.

Gave enough of a tease to make me think that this match on Sunday could very easily steal the show.

Worst match of the night:

Each week I just can’t get into anything between Nakamura (and Cesaro) versus Lucha House Party. This week it was Shinsuke Nakamura against Gran Metalik.

Crowd Chants of the Night:

No chants, but while I understand the concept of the piped in crowd noise…WWE seemed to go a bit heavy with it tonight.

Star of the Night

Well, I thought the three Intercontinental contenders did a good job this week.

I also liked what we got out of Roman Reigns and Jey Uso.

So…yep. Take your pick.

Spot of the Night:

The ladders had to come into play this week, especially as a means to hype the ladder match for Clash of Champions.

Other than that, the closing Superman punch was nice. You had to know it was coming, based on the time left when Reigns walked back.

Jobber of the Night:

In terms of an obvious choice? I don’t have one.

I am leaning toward Lacy Evans or Gran Metalik, however.

Upset of the Night:

None tonight.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

Torn on this one. I would say there wasn’t really one tonight…but I did like the closing promos by both Roman Reigns and Jey Uso.

Setting up their Clash Family Feud, of course.

But…not really a holy @# thing, I don’t think.

LOL Moment of the night:

For now, the Otis-lawsuit drama is making me laugh. Whether that continues, remains to be seen.

Noteworthy Moment:

For me, the big one was the memorials for Road Warrior Animal.

If you have not been paying attention, the last surviving Road Warrior passed away earlier in the week. WWE has a knack for doing some nice tributes.

Overall lowlights:

Not much to complain about. This show in particular won’t win any awards. which I guess is a knock?

Overall highlights:

No Retribution. Sad, because that means no laughs…but now is when I can be thankful that WWE made that group RAW only.

The hype for the Intercontinental championship bout was strong.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the cousins as well.

After the final bell:

I’d say this show followed the formula. That’s neither good nor bad, just is what it is.

Did they do enough to make more folks watch Clash? I don’t know-my gut says they may have changed a few minds…but really, chances are if you weren’t already a WWE Network subscriber, this wasn’t going to change your mind.

Still, I think Clash will be carried by a few key matches. Really looking forward to the ladder match, and Jey Uso against Roman Reigns has my curiousity piqued.

After all…this year’s Clash is set for a Family Feud!
