If Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are willing to fight in a charity match, apparently, the UFC’s looking at having the two fight again in the Octagon.

White says offers are out for McGregor – Poirier 2

A couple of days ago, McGregor reached out to Poirier on Twitter and asked if he was interested in fighting again, as a means to raise funds for charity. Poirier said he was down.

The exchange happened not long after McGregor posted images of texts he traded with White this past March, over his next bout. The UFC President proceeded to report he wasn’t happy with McGregor publicly disclosing their private correspondence.

Well, since all that, White appeared on Barstool Sports. While discussing what’s transpired with McGregor recently, which included the star claiming he’s fighting Manny Pacquiao next in the Middle East, White said this (quotes via MMA Fighting).

“No, Conor and I have not talked outside the public stuff,” Whitesaid.

“I don’t know if you just saw, the Saudis went after Conor basically said that’s a lie that fight [with Manny Pacquiao] is happening and you better take that down in the next 15 minutes and we’re going to sue you.

He took it down. You don’t see the poster anymore about him and Pacquiao that he posted.

“Then he called out Poirier with Conor in Dublin for charity. So we offered them both a fight. We offered Dustin and Conor a fight so we’re waiting to hear back from both of them.”

MMA Fighting is also reporting that sources say no offers for McGregor – Poirier 2 have been sent out yet. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean bout agreements won’t be delivered.

But will this happen?

When you look at where McGregor and Poirier currently sit in the UFC’s lightweight rankings, #5 and #2 respectively, of course, this fight makes sense. Poirier has repeatedly said he wants a chance at avenging his 2014 loss to McGregor.

But, it will be somewhat surprising if this bout does happen. After all, if McGregor has been willing to fight Poirier again, why wasn’t this fight tabled before?

And why did McGregor go out of his way to call for a charity bout with Poirier, without having the UFC involved? If he wanted, McGregor could fight Poirier for money, and then send that money to a charity.

So, one could certainly question whether all is well between McGregor and the UFC right now.
