The ‘Home Improvement’ Reunion You’ve Been Waiting For – Tim And Al Are Back In New Show

Tim Allen fans eat your heart out! America’s favorite toolman just announced that he is reuniting with his former “Home Improvement” costar Richard Karn for the upcoming home workshop competition show “Assembly Required”.

Tim Allen And Richard Karn Reunite On “Assembly Required”

The HISTORY network confirmed to PEOPLE magazine that it has ordered 10 episodes of the home workshop competition show. Both Tim Allen, 67, and Richard Karn, 64,  are set to star in and executive produce “Assembly Required”.

The two men worked together for eight seasons from 1991-99 on “Home Improvement”. Allen, as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor and Karn as his plucky sidekick Albert “Al” E. Borland. Together, the two were a laugh a minute and brought tremendous joy to households across America.

Now the new show, “Assembly Required”, is set to highlight the best and brightest builders from all over America at their home workshop.

The competing builders will  be tasked with giving new life to normal household objects that are broken. Of course, the contestants not only need to rebuild these items, but also make them better than they were before.

Allen and Karn will spend each episode looking into the unique history that these items have in the lives of the men and women fixing them.

Tim Allen Announces The Tool Time Reunion

“Let’s face it — we’re living in a throwaway society,” Allen said in a statement. “We buy, break, replace … rinse and repeat. Whatever happened to repair and rebuild?! There are some people who unfriend, unfollow and dispose of anything that offends, annoys or breaks — so I’ve created a show to remind people of the satisfaction and pride that comes from rebuilding something on their own.”

“And who better to join me than my buddy from the old Tool Time days — Richard Karn!” he added. “Now we’re talking More Power! Albert Einstein once said, ‘I’m not a genius, I’m just passionately curious.’ Well, let’s get curious! Even a chimpanzee would at least show interest, right? Wait — I think I just came up with another idea for the show! R-R-R!”

HISTORY Excited To Launch ‘Assembly Required’

Tim Allen isn’t the only one excited about the new home competition show. HISTORY made an announcement of its own.

Eli Lehrer, the network’s executive vice president and general manager, released a statement of his own about the show:

“Our history is defined by the innovations of ordinary dreamers creating extraordinary things, from Thomas Edison’s light bulb to the Wright brothers’ first flight. We look forward to partnering with Tim and Richard, America’s beloved duo, as they challenge a new wave of skilled individuals to think out-of-the-box to build upon the innovations of those before them. We hope this series will inspire viewers to think twice about throwing out that old item, roll up their sleeves and rebuild it better.”

“Assembly Required” is set to premiere on the HISTORY channel sometime in 2021.

So restoring what’s broken. Plus a Tim “The Toolman” and Richard “Al” Karn Tool Time reunion. What’s not to like about this show?

We can hardly wait to see how it turns out!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
