Khabib Nurmagomedov understands that Justin Gaethje is coming off an impressive win over Tony Ferguson and that he’s a ridiculously, dangerous fighter. But, recently the lightweight champ warned Gathje he’s never faced someone like him.

Nurmagomedov plans to “drown” Gaethje

Gaethje has been booked to fight Khabib at UFC 254, which will take place on October 24th. As it stands right now, the location for the card hasn’t been announced.

But, the consensus is that the card will take place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Well, recently Joe Rogan shared out the post below, which shows Gaethje hitting pads with renowned coach, Trevor Whittman. Khabib apparently saw the clip, and followed up with this comment (via MMA Fighting).

“Justin is a very nice guy and good opponent for me, but when octagon close he have to be ready not only boxing match, I’m not Dustin [Poirier] or Tony [Ferguson],” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram. “I will take him to the deepest ocean and drown him.”

Interesting to see

Now, it will be really surprising if tensions between Khabib and Gaethje rise too much as their bout approaches, given that they’re both managed by Dominance MMA.

But, to see Nurmagomedov going out of his way to deliver this warning is interesting, nonetheless.

Also, it certainly sounds like Nurmagomedov doesn’t plan to move away from his renowned, wrestling centric approach versus Gaethje. Even though the latter is a former NCAA Division 1 wrestler.
