UFC “Troubled” by Mike Perry Incident, Conditions For Return Announced

Following an incident in Texas this week, in which Mike Perry allegedly assaulted three people, the UFC will not be offering the fighter any more bouts, until he undergoes professional treatment.

Then, the promotion will evaluate the situation before determining whether Perry will return to the UFC.

UFC statements says promotion’s “troubled” by incident

Perry was charged with Class A assault earlier this week, following an incident in a Lubbock, Texas, restaurant. A video that appears to show Perry punching an older man and shouting racial slur in the incident has gone viral.

The man was reportedly knocked unconscious and had to receive treatment in a hospital.

Since then, the UFC has released the following statement (statement via MMA Fighting).

“UFC is aware and troubled by the video that was released last night concerning Mike Perry. The conduct displayed by Perry is not reflective of that of our organization.

Perry apologized for his behavior and acknowledged he was disappointed with himself that his actions may have reflected poorly on UFC.

“He further acknowledged that he believes he has some issues related to alcohol abuse and has informed UFC that he has committed to immediately seek professional treatment, including substance and behavioral counseling.

At this time, UFC has informed Perry that he will not be offered a bout, and the parties have agreed to evaluate next steps for Perry following the completion of his treatment program.“

Not long after news of the incident surfaced, Perry seemed to defend his actions in a series of tweets. But, according to this statement, the fighter has changed that stance.

Perry had returned to the win column

The disturbing incident has taken place not long after the 28 year old Perry ended a two-fight losing skid last month, by defeating Mickey Gall by decision. Perry, who has lost three of his last five bouts, currently holds a record of 14-6.
