Tony Khan responds to Sammy Guevara's return

AEW’s owner Tony Khan recently spoke out about Sammy Guevara’s return. The wrestler was briefly suspended after it was revealed he made some unpleasant comments about WWE wrestler Sasha Banks.

Sammy Guevara made his return during AEW Dynamite this week. And everyone seemed more than happy to have him back.

Sammy Guevara’s Suspension

Sammy Guevara’s suspension took place after some historical comments came to light. In light of the #SpeakingOut movement, Guevara was suspended without pay until further notice.

He was suspended for comments he made four years ago during a podcast. He basically eluded to Sasha Banks’ attractiveness, but did it in a derogatory way.

AEW responded quickly and without question. The wrestler was promptly removed from AEW programming.

How Tony Khan Handled The Suspension

Tony Khan

Tony Khan made it clear that he took the situation seriously. Even upon Sammy Guevara’s return, he elaborated on the actions taken.

“Sammy completed four weeks of extensive sensitivity training, and his curriculum included subject matters of tolerance, gender, race relations, and why people’s words matter. During his suspension, he was very contrite. I asked him to use that time to try and become a better person, and I think he did.”

The punishment of Guevara stands in stark contrast with the WWE. Wrestlers usually apologize publicly and that is where it remains.

So far, AEW showed a good understanding of how to deal with these issues. This is admirable and an example for the wrestling industry.

Tony Khan also mentioned that Guevara’s pay was sent to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville while he was suspended.

From the beginning, Khan made it clear Guevara had to earn his reinstatement.

With his return, it seems like he did.

The Future For Sammy Guevara

The future for sammy guevara looks bright

Despite his recent issues, the future looks bright for Sammy Guevara.  Aside from his suspension, he is still an integral part of the AEW machine.

Guevara is a part of the Inner Circle. Evidently, this means plenty of feuds for the star in the future.

Sammy is only 26 years old, so there is plenty for him to do in the future. While he did make a mistake, that mistake will not influence the rest of his career.

Speaking of the Inner Circle, Chris Jericho is currently continuing with his feud against Orange Cassidy. The feud also saw him covered in litres of orange juice two weeks ago.

Sammy is likely to play a role in this new feud as well. After all, he assisted Chris Jericho this week during his match.

Of course, there might be singles competition for Guevara in the future. However, I do think AEW is trying to work him back into programming gently.

Some people might still take offense to Guevara at the moment. It is important not to push him too hard to start.

Once everything has calmed down, Guevara can look at singles again.
