Max Holloway: “We Proved Our Point” in Alexander Volkanovski Rematch

Max Holloway wasn’t able to officially, reclaim the featherweight throne at UFC 251. But, it looks like the former champ is happy with his performance, and isn’t dwelling on the negatives.

Holloway comments on much discussed and debated defeat

The Hawaiian star faced Alexander Volkanovski at the July 11th card, in what marked the second time they have fought. The two squared off in December, and Volkanovski ended Holloway’s reign by scoring a decision win.

Since then, Holloway took issue with the opinion that Volkanovski had clearly won that fight. So, this time around he was looking to prove something, and he did do just that.

Holloway dropped Volkanovski a couple of times and many people scored the first three rounds for him. Ultimately, however, two judges saw the fight for the Australian champ, and he retained the belt via the split decision win.

Well, since the bout went down, Holloway shared out these humble and thoughtful comments on what transpired. The former champ also told any supporters who have been threatening media members, who say the fight wasn’t a robbery, to knock it off.

“Just landed in Vegas for another quarantine and was told some guys in the media are receiving threats for saying my fight was not a robbery. This is not ok. I appreciate everyone who wants to ride for me but that ain’t it.”

“Life isn’t fair. It’s even more unfair for many many other people in the world than it will ever be for me. People are unemployed right now with no end in sight and it’s not their fault.

It is what it was. Nothing changed for me as a fighter. We proved our point. I still have my five belts at home. I’m 28 and healthy. Blessed era continues. Bless yourself”

What’s next for Holloway?

It’s going to be interesting to see what comes next for Holloway. Although the rematch was super competitive, and you can make the case Holloway won, chances are a third fight won’t happen in the near future.

So, will we see Holloway stay at 145 pounds? Or might he move up to 155?

Considering his performance on Saturday, and his comments here, don’t be surprised if he remains at featherweight.
