Jorge Masvidal Reacts to Report UFC 251 Did Huge PPV Numbers

Lots of folks predicted that Jorge Masvidal’s addition to UFC 251 would drive pay-per-view sales, and it looks like that was indeed the case. It’s being reported that Saturday’s card sold well over one million, pay-per-view buys, and ‘Gamebred’ was quick to respond.

Masvidal reacts to report UFC 251 did huge PPV numbers

Recently it was reported by The Athletic that the July 11th card sold approximately, 1.3 million PPV buys. If that number is accurate, it would make UFC 251 the best selling, UFC card since UFC 229 in 2018.

That event featured the massive grudge match between Conor McGregor and lightweight champ, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and is believed to have sold around 2.4 million, PPV buys.

Well, not long after the news of UFC 251’s success broke, Masvidal tweeted out this.

The overwhelming amount of support I have received before, during, and after this journey has been humbling. Still got a lot of goals to meet. All of you that tuned in to see me win, thank you. Those that tuned in to see me lose, thank you.

Very good timing

The sales come not long after Masvidal signed a new, UFC contract. Before that happened, ‘Gamebred’ publicly questioned the UFC’s revenue-sharing model.

So, you have to wonder what his payday will be when it’s all said and done. It was probably, pretty, pretty sizeable.

The welterweight faced champion Kamaru Usman in the main event, and lost via decision.

Prior to Saturday’s event, Dana White said the card was “trending higher” than a Conor McGregor bout.

In terms of PPV figures, as of right now, it doesn’t look like UFC 251 will reach McGregor’s biggest bouts. But, still, these numbers would make it a huge event.

It’s worth noting that the event also featured two other title fights, as featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski narrowly defeated Max Holloway, and Petr Yan stopped Jose Aldo to win the vacant, bantamweight title.

So, the event’s success isn’t solely tied to the Kamaru Usman – Jorge Masvidal headliner.

UFC 251 took place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
